Ottsville is a Community in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Ridge Valley Rural Historic District is an area of Ottsville, Tinicum Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania that includes Sheephole and Geigel Hill Roads. The area contains 19th century farms, many of which have stayed the same through preservation efforts. There are 44 buildings and 15 structure on the seven sites throughout the historic district. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Tinicum Township has a population of 3,995 at the 2010 census. The Uhlerstown-Frenchtown Bridge, a free Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission bridge over the Delaware River, connects Uhlerstown to Frenchtown in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It is located approximately forty miles north of Center City, Philadelphia. This township includes both area codes 215 and 610. The township also has five different zip codes. A very interesting part of the history of Tinicum is that which relates to the industrial establishment founded by Joseph Smith, a native of Buckingham township, a little over onehundred years ago. Two and a half miles above Mount Peasant, on the banks of the Delaware, he erected dwellings, grist and saw-mills and smith and plow shop where he carried on a very extensive business for several years. The place was called “Smithtown,” from the name of its founder. The principal employment was making plows and mould-boards. Joseph Smith was assisted by his sons and brother Robert, and in 1800, the latter took out a patent for a cast iron mould-board, the first of the kind ever invented. Before that plows were fitted with wooden mould-boards, but this invention revolutionized the plow as well as plowing.
